NOTE OF READING ROTARY ZOOM MEETING 9th AUGUST 2022

1. PRESIDENT’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • 7 day letter for David T has been circulated
  • 27 have registered for the 30/8/22 Mapledurham meeting to date
  • Marshalls are needed for the Abbey run on 28 August 2022 – please help if you can!
  • Tony C will lead the new to be started Reading Rotary Environmental Team
  • Alan H will chair the next meeting on behalf of Roger
  • We will have two Rotary guests from Rio de Janeiro during our meeting on 6 September 2022

2. MEMBERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • Tim: Back to Nature will be a special event along the Thames on 21 August 2022
  • Chris:  Please do keep meeting times under control, and
  • 30/8 will be a good meeting to introduce David T as a new member
  • Graham: Please ensure that all team leaders invite new members to a team meeting

4. TODAY: BUSINESS MEETING - Reports from Team Leaders

1. Club Services
Roger on behalf of Alan Haine: 1) Pepe Sale questionnaire is being reviewed – all will be asked for views; 2) Associate Member fees are being considered; 3) Thank you to Matt for finding a hotel for fellowship weekend in Chichester late October 2022  

2. Speakers
Janet Poland: 1) 2022 diary schedule update will be posted on the website tomorrow; 2) five items are to be valued during our Mapledurham meeting on 30 August 2022 (two water-colours, a world cup package, an old farm package, a clock and a pistol); 3) ideas for entertaining evening speakers are welcome

3. Membership
John O and Graham considered the need for new in- and outdoor banners to promote Rotary and attract new members.

4. Youth Services
Tim on behalf of Amir: 1) RYLA Speaker booked for 6th Sept; 2) All dictionaries went out; 3) Theale Green School event was a success; 4) Shoe boxes and associated budget are sorted for Sept. 2022

5. Santa Run
Eydis (after the meeting): Date may remain at 11 December.  Details will follow soon

6. Community and Vocational
Leslie on behalf of Matt Andrews: All to advise Matt before 17/8 if they will join the fellowship weekend 28/29 October 2022

7. International and Foundation
Leslie Green: 1) In Tanzania, safeguarding is now being defined with supporting national policies – note that historically it was completely legal for a 40+years old man to marry a girl of 12;  2) Leslie and Bridget will visit Tanzania again shortly; 3) Foodbank support for Orum and Amani is welcomed; as both areas are in crisis; 4) will host an International meeting on 21 September at 12:00 noon.  All will be invited to attend as new members are needed.  

8. RRCP
John Brunnen on behalf of Peter: Early loan repayment is under consideration – the property is being valued for a decision in November 2022

9. Centenary Dinner
Members agreed that John B will transfer a tip to the value of £150 for staff serving at the centenary diner, as agreed at the outset.
