Joining the Rotary Club of Reading is a great way to make new friends, give back to the community and be part of projects that change lives locally and around the world.
Our members come from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and professions. You do not need to be invited or already know someone in Rotary – you simply need a willingness to get involved and live by Rotary’s values of service, integrity and fellowship.
What membership involves
- Regular club meetings with interesting speakers and project updates.
- Opportunities to help run community events and fundraising activities.
- Chances to develop skills, confidence and leadership.
- A friendly, welcoming group who enjoy social events together.
We understand that people are busy. Many members combine Rotary with work and family life – you are not expected to attend everything, and we will help you find a level of involvement that works for you.
How to join
- Get in touch to let us know you are interested.
- Visit one or two meetings to see what we are like.
- If it feels right, we will guide you through the simple membership process.
You do not have to be a member to get involved. We are always delighted to welcome volunteers who can lend a hand at one-off events or specific projects.
Ways you can volunteer
- Help at community events such as fairs, collections or awareness days.
- Support fundraising activities, from ticket sales to event set-up.
- Offer practical skills – for example, photography, design, IT, logistics or safeguarding.
- Bring friends, family or colleagues along to support a particular project.
Volunteering is flexible – you choose the opportunities and time commitment that suit you. We will give you a clear brief, introduce you to the team and make sure you feel supported.
How to register your interest
Tell us a bit about yourself, when you are generally available and the kinds of activities you might enjoy. We will then be in touch when suitable opportunities arise.

Do I have to live or work in Reading to get involved?
Our focus is on Reading and the surrounding area, but we welcome people from nearby towns who want to support our projects.
Is there an age limit for membership?
There is no strict upper age limit. If you are over 18, share our values and can participate in some way, we would be pleased to hear from you.
How much does it cost to be a member?
There is an annual subscription which helps cover Rotary and club running costs. We will explain the current amount and any payment options when you contact us. We always aim to keep cost from being a barrier.
How much time do I need to commit?
Many members have busy jobs and family lives. We ask for regular engagement with the club and reasonable support for projects, but we understand that availability varies. We will work with you to find a pattern that suits you.
Can I try Rotary before deciding to join?
Yes. We encourage prospective members to visit one or two meetings and, if they wish, help at an event before making a decision.
Can I volunteer without becoming a member?
Absolutely. We value volunteers who give time on a project-by-project basis. You will always be properly briefed and supported.
Is Rotary inclusive?
We welcome people of all genders, backgrounds, cultures, faiths and none. We are committed to being a friendly, respectful and inclusive club.
What if I am not sure how I could help?
That is fine – talk to us. Once we understand your interests and experience, we can suggest ways to get involved that feel comfortable and rewarding.
