Rotary projects that change lives
From local neighbourhood initiatives to global campaigns, the Rotary Club of Reading turns ideas into practical projects that make a difference for people of all ages.

Projects are at the heart of Rotary. Our members give their time, skills and energy to plan and deliver practical service projects that respond to real needs in Reading and around the world.

On this page you can explore some of our recent and ongoing projects. They include support for local charities, opportunities for young people, environmental action and participation in Rotary’s global campaigns.

If something here sparks your interest, we would love you to get in touch, volunteer, or talk to us about partnering on a future project.

As part of Rotary International, our club contributes to life-changing projects well beyond Reading. Working with other clubs and trusted partners, we combine fundraising with hands-on support where it is most needed.

  • End Polio Now: Rotary’s flagship campaign to eradicate polio worldwide. We support fundraising, awareness activities and advocacy to help finish the job.
  • Disaster response and recovery: When disasters strike, we help fund emergency shelter, clean water and medical supplies through Rotary-led appeals and partner charities.
  • Education and health projects: We back projects that improve access to schooling, vocational training, maternal health and disease prevention in lower-income countries.

International projects are an inspiring way to see Rotary’s global reach in action while still being part of a friendly local club in Reading.

Fundraising enables us to turn good ideas into real projects. Every pound we raise is carefully directed to causes where it can have the greatest impact.

Recent and regular initiatives include:

  • Annual Santa Run: For over 10 years the Rotary Club of Reading has organised a fun run/walk typically in early December, that raises significant amounts to help many local charities.
  • Charity golf days: Bringing together golfers, sponsors and supporters to raise substantial funds for local hospices and community charities.
  • Seasonal collections: Supporting winter appeals, Santa-themed activities and other seasonal events that bring some extra sparkle while raising money for good causes.
  • International evenings and social events: Friendly evenings that mix fun and fellowship with fundraising for specific international projects.

We are always open to new fundraising ideas and partnerships with businesses, schools and community groups.

Many of our most successful projects are built on strong partnerships. We work with schools, charities, community groups and businesses that share our commitment to service.

Ways you can partner with us include:

  • Project sponsorship: Provide financial support, in-kind contributions or matched funding for a specific project.
  • Staff volunteering: Encourage employees to volunteer at events or take part in team challenges linked to our projects.
  • Shared expertise: Offer professional skills such as marketing, logistics or training to help deliver a project effectively.

If you have an idea for a new initiative, we would be delighted to discuss how we could plan and deliver it together.

Every project we run depends on the generosity and enthusiasm of people like you. There are many ways to help, whether or not you are ready to become a Rotary member.

  • Volunteer at an event: Lend a hand at a fundraising activity, community clean-up or collection.
  • Make a donation: Contribute financially to support our local and international projects.
  • Share your skills: Offer your professional or practical expertise to strengthen a specific project.
  • Spread the word: Tell friends, colleagues and neighbours about what Rotary does in Reading.

Whatever you can offer, it will help us to extend our reach and deepen our impact.
